Aftercare Instructions for Laser Treatment
What to Expect
- A test patch will be performed to ensure a safe and effective treatment is performed
- The treated area may swell somewhat. This is caused by the laser energy and represents inflammation, and not infection.
- While the laser usually leaves the overlying skin intact, a crust (or scab) may form, which is not abnormal or unexpected.
- Laser facial rejuvenation / Acne and Acne Scarring Carbon Facial: There is no significant downtime associated with the treatment; however the use of a SPF sunscreen is important to protect the skin from harmful UV rays as the skin may be slightly sun sensitive. Most patients can apply mineral makeup and resume their normal daily activities.
- Epidermal Pigmentation 532nm treatment / Dermal Pigmentation 1064nm Toning:Downtime is generally minimal, but this will depend on the severity of the affected area being treated. The darkened treated areas can be concealed with mineral makeup if necessary. Some clients will experience mild discomfort which can be minimised by the use of a topical anaesthetic.
- The purpura (bruising or red-purple colour) you may see in some treated areas will last 7-10 days on average. The body gradually continues the fading process for several weeks, so that the final results may not be seen for up to 4-8 weeks after treatment.

Care of Treated Area
- To relieve any swelling, apply post chilled gel (eg. Solugel/Mediquattro) to sooth and calm the treatment area, or apply an ice pack wrapped in a soft cloth. Leave this on the treated area for 5-10 minutes per each hour for several or more hours
- If the treated area scales or scabs up, apply a thin coat of antibiotic ointment to the treated area once or twice daily for 7 days, or until the surface looks healed
- Expect darkening/grazing of pigmented lesions
- Do not rub, scratch or pick the area(s)
- Minimise sun exposure as best as possible for at least 1 month before and after treatment. Wear protective clothing and a high SPF (at least SPF 30) sunscreen to protect the treated area from direct sun exposure
- To achieve optimal and long term results, ongoing skin care (including pre/post care recommendations is vital to achieving optimal results
